Finding Compelling Content Ideas for Your Newsletter

We know that quality content is essential if you want your newsletter to succeed. Finding interesting content month after month can seem daunting for many. Here are a few ideas to inspire you, make your life easier and turn publishing your newsletters into an enjoyable exercise.

You’re the expert

You’ve worked in your industry for years, you know it inside out and you’re passionate about it, so you’re an endless source of topics. The people who receive your newsletter are probably not as knowledgeable as you in your field. Share your knowledge with them and pass on your passion. Authenticity, emotion and anecdotes are always a hit!

Save the reading you find interesting

An interesting article, a catchy ad, an inspiring website… Add them to your bookmarks or take screenshots. Chances are you won’t be working on your newsletter when you come across interesting information. Keep it handy so you can come back to it when the time comes.

Subscribe to newsletters similar to yours

Your suppliers, partners and even competitors may have publications covering topics similar to yours. Subscribe. Look at how they handle topics, the length of their texts, their angle, etc. A suggestion: subscribe to newsletters from other markets to see how your products and/or services are talked about elsewhere.

Find your own style

Of course, no matter what inspires you, you can’t simply copy content from here and there and publish it under your name. You need to find your angle, write your own article and give it your own touch. Over the course of your newsletters, readers should ideally recognize a tone, a common thread that stays true to your company’s personality. Your subscribers will get used to your style and will probably be more inclined to read your next newsletter if they know what to expect.

Revisit a topic you’ve already covered

Eighteen months ago, you covered a topic that was hot in your industry’s news. Reread, compile and reformat your article to give it an up-to-date second life!

Plan!

A content calendar and publishing schedule prepared a few months in advance can greatly simplify your writing process. In-depth articles can be planned ahead, while leaving some room for more timely information like current promotions, new products, etc.

Ask for suggestions

Your customer service team can probably give you a few ideas based on customers’ frequently asked questions. You can also ask your readers for suggestions at the end of your newsletter.

Remember, there’s no magic recipe for writing a newsletter, so trust yourself and keep things simple. I hope these little tips are useful. In fact, I’ll use one of my own tips by asking you the following question: what topics would you like us to cover in the coming months?

So I’ll turn the question back to you… What topics would you like us to cover in the coming months? Write to us at communications@cyberimpact.com
